Skytap, Inc., a leading provider of cloud-based virtual lab solutions, today
announced its Independent Software Vendor (ISV) Alliance program to enable
on-demand distribution of commercial software solutions through its Virtual
Lab platform. Skytap's initial ISV partners include ITKO LISA. Skytap's
Virtual Lab automation platform, combined with ITKO LISA, will enable
customers to dynamically spin up entire IT environments for service-oriented
testing or training labs.
I'm here at STARwest in hot Anaheim, CA, and a lot of the people I'm talking
to are mighty curious about how Virtual Test Labs happen in the Cloud. For
us, the ability to Virtualize a service-based application, and provision it
with Skytap's virtual hardware, represents a great way to get the validation
you need without the provisioning nightmare.
We think this is a great application for where the cloud ... (more)
Selenium is a free Web Application Testing System. It gained lots of
popularity since it is available. It’s integration to FireFox – which
allows instant record/replay as well as the scripting option - makes it a
great tool for functional web testing.
BrowserMob on the other side leverages Selenium by providing an automated
load-testing environment for Selenium scripts all configurable online via a
Tagging Web Requests
In my recent blog post – Get more out of functional web testing: How to
correlate test reports with server side log information? – I discussed the
problem that testing results are usually not linked to the log and
diagnostics information captured by the application under test. The blog
entry offered a way to link the two sides using HTTP Tagging via an HTTP
Proxy. Tagging individual Web Requests allows linking each individual request
Testing is a first-order constituent of SOA governance. Assuring that
services and service infrastructure components meet functional and technical
requirements across lifecycle stages and environments, including production,
is an architectural precept in SOA.
Gone are the days when testing was an isolated hop in the old disjointed
SDLC. You know the one I'm talking about - an architect would design a
component, hand it to developers to develop and they would hand it to testers
to test, and testers, in turn, who would hand it to system administrators to
operate. The components were often large, complex, and dependent on other
complex components and systems, and so it was hard to write enough test cases
to adequately assure quality.
The result was a lot of uncaught errors that led to a vicious cycle of
patches and more testing, consuming valuable enterprise resources... (more)
Many large organizations are in the process of adopting hardware
virtualization technology for the development of their dynamic enterprise
applications. However, hardware virtualization is not appropriate or feasible
in all circumstances, and by focusing solely on hardware virtualization we
could be leaving opportunities to save significant time and money on the
This white paper by John Michelsen, Founder & Chief Architect, iTKO,
introduces the practice of Service Virtualization as a key complement to
hardware virtualization to facilitate the efficient development and testing
of dynamic enterprise applications. Service virtualization involves the
imaging of software service behavior and the modeling of a virtual service to
stand in for the actual service during development and testing. Organizations
that want to realize the full benefits of a virtualization ... (more)
iTKO says HP is going to resell its LISA Virtualize software combined with
HP's quality management, functional and performance testing solutions.
It's supposed to accelerate software testing and reduce the cost of
developing increasingly complex modern applications.

The widgetry creates on-demand 24/7 virtual test environments.
It's supposed to lower test lab costs by up to 65% and shorten software
release cycles by up to 38% by eliminating the testing constraints caused by
dependent IT resources that are unavailable or inaccessible for testing.
iTKO says that for software test labs and test teams to be productive, they
need live working environments to test against and those dependencies can
become a huge constraint when critical systems like mainframes and cloud
services are either ... (more)
